Small Intestine Diagnostics

Capsule endoscopy is a method that enables painless and safe examination of the small intestine. This imaging technique visualises the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, which until recently was only possible through surgical intervention. The procedure is safe and convenient for the patient. To perform the examination, the patient swallows a capsule the size of a large tablet. As the capsule travels through the digestive tract, it takes high-resolution images, which are transmitted to a receiver worn on a belt by the patient. Using specialised software, the doctor reviews the recorded images and makes a diagnosis. During the examination, the patient can carry on with normal daily activities. 

Capsule endoscopy is used to image the mucous membrane of the small intestine in cases where pathological changes in this part of the digestive tract are suspected. It is important to note that it does not replace gastroscopy or colonoscopy but provides real-time images of the small intestine’s mucous membrane.
