Treatment of Urinary Incontinence

Treatment of Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence affects approximately one in three women. We offer specialist treatment of all forms of urinary incontinence, as well as pelvic organ prolapse and related conditions. Due to the complexity of the problem, treatment is carried out in an interdisciplinary manner.

In practice, this means that patients are cared for by specialists from various fields of medicine, including gynaecologists, urologists, surgeons, neurologists, internists, and other professionals such as physiotherapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists. Our primary goal is to attempt non-surgical treatment, and when conservative therapy does not meet expectations or is unlikely to yield positive results, we offer a full range of minimally invasive surgical procedures.

A Common but Treatable Condition

Around one in three women experience urinary incontinence at some point in their lives.

Many women delay seeking help, despite effective treatments being available.

Our aim is to restore confidence, function, and quality of life with evidence-based care.

Comprehensive, Interdisciplinary Care

We offer a comprehensive approach to the treatment of all types of urinary incontinence and associated conditions such as pelvic organ prolapse. Given the multidimensional nature of these problems, we employ an interdisciplinary approach that integrates expertise from specialists across different medical fields. The team includes gynaecologists, urologists, surgeons, neurologists, and internists, supported by physiotherapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists. Our aim is to provide effective treatment that allows patients to return to full activity without the discomfort and limitations caused by urinary incontinence.

Diagnostics and Assessment

We offer personalised care focused on the effective treatment of urinary incontinence. Our patients have access to consultations with experienced gynaecologists and a wide range of diagnostic tests.

Specialist Consultation

Detailed medical history, symptom assessment, and pelvic examination by an experienced gynaecologist or urogynaecologist.

Urodynamic Studies

Objective assessment of bladder and urethral function to determine the type and severity of incontinence.

Cystoscopy

Endoscopic examination of the bladder, used in selected cases to assess the lower urinary tract.

Ultrasound Imaging

Ultrasound scans to evaluate pelvic organs, bladder, and pelvic floor structures.

Conservative Treatment and Urogynaecological Rehabilitation

Our primary goal is to attempt non-surgical treatment whenever possible. Conservative methods may include:

  • Pelvic floor muscle training and urogynaecological physiotherapy
  • Lifestyle modifications and bladder training
  • Pharmacological treatment for certain types of incontinence, such as urge incontinence
  • Psychological support where symptoms affect emotional wellbeing and confidence

These approaches are tailored to the individual needs of each patient. If conservative methods prove insufficient or do not deliver the expected results, we then consider minimally invasive surgical options.

Minimally Invasive Surgical Procedures

When non-surgical treatment is unlikely to be effective or does not bring the expected improvement, we offer a variety of minimally invasive procedures aimed at restoring continence and pelvic floor support.

  • Treatment of pelvic organ prolapse – surgical correction of prolapse of the uterus, bladder, or other pelvic organs.
  • Treatment of urinary incontinence using TVT and TOT tape – placement of tension-free vaginal tapes to support the urethra in stress incontinence.
  • Full range of laparoscopic reconstructive procedures for the pelvic floor – minimally invasive techniques to restore normal anatomy and function.
  • Anterior and posterior repair with perineal reconstruction – correction of defects in the front and back vaginal walls and perineum.
  • Treatment of urge incontinence – including pharmacological treatment and, in selected cases, procedural options.
  • Sacral nerve neuromodulation – modulation of nerve pathways controlling bladder function in refractory cases.

Interdisciplinary Approach to Incontinence and Prolapse

We offer a comprehensive approach to the treatment of all types of urinary incontinence and associated conditions such as pelvic organ prolapse. Given the multidimensional nature of these problems, we employ an interdisciplinary approach that integrates expertise from specialists across different medical fields. The therapeutic team includes gynaecologists, urologists, surgeons, neurologists, and internists, supported by physiotherapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists. This enables us to address not only the physical symptoms but also the emotional and social impact of urinary incontinence.
