Thyroid Nodules Using EchoLaser | PAX Medicus Medical Tourism Agency

EchoLaser Treatment

EchoLaser is a minimally invasive procedure used for the treatment of benign thyroid nodules. It allows precise destruction of targeted tissue using laser energy, performed under ultrasound guidance and local anaesthesia.

  • No surgical scar
  • Preserves healthy thyroid tissue
  • Performed under local anaesthesia
  • No hospital stay required
  • Short recovery time

The procedure is suitable for patients with benign nodules that cause discomfort, pressure symptoms, or aesthetic concerns.

What is laser ablation using EchoLaser?

Laser ablation of thyroid nodules using EchoLaser is a minimally invasive procedure performed percutaneously under ultrasound guidance. It uses one or two optical fibre needles to deliver laser energy directly into the nodule, generating heat that destroys the targeted tissue.

The procedure is carried out on an outpatient basis and does not require general anaesthesia or hospitalisation. It is intended for benign (Bethesda II) solid or mixed thyroid nodules that cause symptoms or cosmetic concerns.

Which thyroid nodules can be treated using EchoLaser?

Patients qualify for EchoLaser if they have one or more benign solid or mixed cystic-solid nodules that cause symptoms such as:

Pressure and discomfort

Feeling of tightness or pressure in the neck.

Difficulty swallowing

When enlarged nodules press on the oesophagus.

Visible neck enlargement

Nodules large enough to affect neck shape.

How the EchoLaser procedure is performed

The procedure is performed under ultrasound guidance. One or two fibre needles are inserted through the skin directly into the thyroid nodule. Laser energy is delivered through the fibres, producing heat that destroys the targeted tissue.

The treatment session usually lasts 20–30 minutes, and the entire visit including preparation takes up to 45 minutes. Because no skin incision is required, only local anaesthesia is used to minimise discomfort.

Anaesthesia

Due to the use of extremely fine needles, general anaesthesia is not required. Local anaesthesia is applied to ensure comfort during the procedure and reduce the mild warming sensation that may occur.

Benefits of EchoLaser Treatment

No scarring

There are no surgical incisions, so no visible scars remain on the neck.

Outpatient procedure

Patients return home the same day and can resume normal activities the next morning.

Preserves thyroid function

The procedure does not damage healthy thyroid tissue and avoids the need for lifelong hormone therapy.

Patients typically return to normal activities the next day. Follow-up visits are recommended every three months for several months. These include thyroid ultrasound and blood tests such as TSH, anti-TPO, and anti-TG, to monitor nodule reduction and treatment outcomes.

Most patients achieve significant results after a single session. If further reduction is needed, additional sessions can be safely performed.

EchoLaser treatment leads to either complete disappearance or significant reduction of symptoms caused by nodule pressure. Nodule shrinkage occurs gradually over several months as the body naturally removes the destroyed tissue.

Studies have shown that a single EchoLaser session can reduce nodule volume by up to 50% in most patients. Long-term follow-up confirms that the reduction remains stable, with complications being extremely rare and temporary.
